Drapery, bedding and rug cleaning in Albany

Draperies, bedding, pillowcases and area rugs, taken in at the San Pablo Avenue counter.

Chapter 01

What a home quietly collects

The textiles in a house work hard and nobody notices until something looks off. Drapes hold dust in their folds and fade slowly where the sun hits them. Bedding and pillowcases pick up body oils night after night. An area rug takes grit from every shoe that crosses it, and the pile hides it until the rug is lifted.

None of this shows up on a laundry schedule, which is why these pieces tend to go years between cleanings. A shop that already handles delicate clothing is a sensible place to take them, because the same care applies to heavy fabric as to a good blazer.

Royal Cleaners takes household items in at the same counter as everything else. Bring in a pair of drapes, a comforter or a rug and the person at the counter will tell you how it will be handled.

The shop's own answer to whether it cleans items other than clothing is yes: household items like drapes, bedding and pillowcases are part of the work. Area rug cleaning is on the published service list too.

Every household piece is a little different in size, fiber and condition. If you are curious about whether the shop takes a specific item, call (510) 323-4167 and describe it. They are happy to help, and it saves you a trip across town with something bulky in the back of the car.

A few small habits help at the counter. Say what the piece is and how it is used, point out any stain you already know about, and mention when you need it back. Spills on any textile are best brought in quickly, and rubbing or home remedies tend to make a mark harder to remove.

Chapter 03

Getting a big piece to the counter

Plan the carry before you plan the cleaning. Take drapes down with the hooks removed so they fold flat, roll an area rug rather than folding it, and bag bedding so it stays together. Note any stain before you leave home, then point it out at drop-off.

The shop does not offer pick-up and delivery, but its location on San Pablo Avenue makes stopping by easy for Albany and Berkeley residents, and there is street parking nearby. Drop-off hours are Monday to Friday 7:00 AM to 2:00 PM and Saturday 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM, closed Sunday.

Royal Cleaners has served the Bay Area as a family business for over 60 years and is now in its third generation. If you are bringing in a rug or a set of drapes along with a suit or a dress, everything goes on one visit and one counter.
