Handled with extra care
Vintage and wedding wear cleaning in Albany
Heirloom dresses, wedding wear and antique garments, cleaned and preserved at 814 San Pablo Avenue.
Chapter 01
Old fabric does not forgive a standard cycle
A garment that has lasted decades has usually done it by luck and careful storage. The fibers are often brittle, the color has shifted toward yellow, and the lace, beading or embellishment is held on by thread that was never meant for rough handling. A standard cleaning routine can finish off in one pass what time spent fifty years undoing.
That is why vintage clothing is treated as its own category at Royal Cleaners. The shop works with vintage and delicate fabrics every week, and the approach changes with the piece: what it is made of, what is sewn onto it, and what has already been through it.
If you have a dress from a grandmother's wedding, a coat from a specific decade or a formal piece you cannot replace, this is the page for you.

Cleaning, restoration and preservation
Royal Cleaners offers cleaning for all types of vintage clothing and describes its process as the safest it can use, so the garment can last for many more years. The same care applies to wedding dresses and formal wear. Extra precautions are taken so delicate fabrics and embellishments come through intact.
Beyond a clean, the shop also does restoration and preservation of vintage clothing, wedding wear and other items. That covers the heirloom dress that needs to be put away properly after the event, and the cherished antique garment that needs to be made presentable without being altered in character.
Every piece is different, so the best first step is to bring it to the counter or call (510) 323-4167 and describe what you have. You will get a straight answer about what the shop can do and what to expect.
Chapter 03
Storing it afterward, and timing an event
After cleaning, take the plastic cover off and let the garment air out before it goes away. Keep it somewhere cool and dry. Plastic traps moisture against old fabric, so a breathable cover is a better long-term home than the bag it left the shop in.
If the dress is for an event, ask the counter before you have a date in mind. Delicate work is not something to squeeze into the last few days, and a few weeks of notice gives everyone room to do it properly. Minor alterations are often done within a day or two, and anything larger comes with a pickup date at drop-off.
